About Wellness Rox

The mission of Wellness Rox DPC is to offer trustworthy guidance and personalized support for improving health and wellness for those who are experiencing disparate health outcomes due to structural racism, and other socioeconomic influencers.

We envision a thriving network of holistic agents of wellness care who enrich and support the wellbeing of the communities in which our members live and flourish.

We do this by establishing and building relationships centered on listening to your story, identifying your priorities, providing a safe haven for care and concerns, and building upon your natural strengths and resiliency.

This entails dialogue, honesty, self-forgiveness, and acceptance to rise through challenges. It also requires reaching outside oneself to be helped and to help others.

FAQs

1) What is DPC?

DPC stands for Direct Primary Care. Direct Primary Care occurs when you have a direct relationship and contract with your doctor to provide the majority of your care, without the involvement of insurance companies.

2) Do you accept insurance?

No, we do not accept insurance because insurance increases the overhead of medical practices, and the paperwork takes precious time away that we prefer to spend with our patients. In addition, insurance in the U.S. is a form of a caste system, where those who are poor are provided with Medicaid, which is priced below the actual cost of what it would take to keep a medical practice open. At the same time, some top hospitals will not accept Medicaid rates because they are too low, and so people do not have equal access to the same resources as rich or those with a “Rolls Royce” insurance policy. I am a conscientious objector to this three-tiered Caste Medical system, and I have made a conscious choice not to participate in it.

I encourage everyone who objects to a caste system of care to write to their Governor and advocate for Medicaid to cover the monthly fee for DPC care, create parity where Medicaid payment rates are equal to Medicare, and push for equality in health care for all.

3) Does membership replace medical insurance?

No, you must keep your medical insurance to cover non-routine medical care – such as hospital costs and expensive medical procedures.

4) Why is it set up as a membership program with a monthly fee?

The goal is to have transparent pricing that is spread out over time to meet your budget. If you suddenly need more care, there will be no additional cost; nor will there be additional copayments at the time of visits.

DPC membership provides benefits beyond those available with normal fee for service practices. A partial list of the benefits and those who are best served by them is listed here.

5) Who should sign up for a Wellness Rox DPC membership?

  • Anyone who wants or needs to spend more time with their medical provider, and feel less like he or she is cattle being herded.
  • Anyone who wants to spend less time sitting in waiting rooms and the convenience of telemedicine and/or easy phone access.
  • Those who are uninsured and avoid seeking care because of the high cost of emergency room costs.
  • College students who want a doctor they can call directly at any hour or more privacy than a campus health center can provide.
  • Those with high deductible insurance, but want quick and easy access with lower out-of-pocket costs overall.
  • Anyone who wants personalized care with holistic approaches, and respectful integration of cultural options, even if they have insurance.
  • Small business owners who cannot afford to offer insurance to their employees, but wish to provide some kind of primary care access, and thoughtful affordable options for testing and prescriptions.

6) Can I do a trial membership?

Yes, we have a 3 visit one-time only membership that expires after 6 months and can be credited towards full membership.

7) Can I cancel?

Yes, but the terms for canceling vary for each membership type. Make sure you read and understand the terms before you sign up. If you have questions, please ask. We are here to serve you.
